Fadnavis Shares Stage With Thackeray Rivals at Mumbai Cartoon Book Launch
Devendra Fadnavis, Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray shared a platform in Mumbai on October 29 for a Marathi cartoon book launch, where political humour, a private meeting and a proposal for a cartoon gallery drew attention.
The occasion marked the release of 'Maharashtrachya Hasyaresha', edited by Prashant Kulkarni. The book brings together works by 75 Marathi cartoonists, tracing the history of Marathi cartooning since 1881.
During the event, Fadnavis used humour to describe the different interests and strengths of the leaders present. He quipped that Raj Thackeray excelled at cartoons, Uddhav Thackeray was skilled at photography, while he himself remained focused on politics. He also joked about the seating arrangements, referring to shifts from the left to the right.
Raj Thackeray highlighted Maharashtra's tradition of bringing people together through art, irrespective of their political differences. His remarks underscored the importance of cultural platforms in creating common ground among individuals and leaders from different political backgrounds.
The leaders had also held a private meeting before the public event, adding another dimension to their joint appearance at the book launch.
Fadnavis further proposed establishing a cartoon gallery in Mumbai, emphasising the significance of cartoons in documenting history and expressing dissent. He highlighted how political cartoons have played a role in reflecting developments and offering perspectives on public affairs.
The launch of 'Maharashtrachya Hasyaresha' thus brought together political figures and celebrated the contribution of 75 Marathi cartoonists, while drawing attention to the historical and cultural significance of cartooning in Maharashtra.
